Squad History

2001

I started playing Subspace in September after stumbling across it by accident (I was probably looking for porn). I guess I was one of the last people who started playing in the old way. That's downloading Subspace ver. 1.35 then learning the basics by playing the tutorial before logging into SSCX Alpha West and learning how to play SVS before moving onto other zones. Nowadays new players will download Continuum and log into the zone with the highest number of people playing, usually Trench Wars. I still think the best way to learn to play the game is to learn SVS before going to other zones with other settings.

Anyway, after a couple of weeks I joined Hide), an Alpha squad that was mostly made up of new players and some aliased vets. Hide) was a cloaking squad, but it did have some experienced pilots who taught me the basics of SVS play, specially Hide) and Exco (who both later went on to play for Vic). But what I really wanted to do was play in the Premier League. Hide) were on the waiting list for AML season 5, but never got any further than that.

So after only two months playing I formed Victimise. Initially this had just been a squad name Megus and I used when we weren't squadjoined to Hide). But with Hide) not looking like becoming a league squad I decided to put Vic on the waiting list. We got a Spring league spot pretty quickly. With Megus and myself set as co-caps we started recruiting for Vic's assault on Spring league. The early core of the squad came from Hide); me, Megus, Nkosi, SmokingKipper, little_wing69, Xenophon78 and Thomaz. I also talked a few long time alpha players into joining us like The Underlord, R.O.C.K. and Harry Belfonte. As well as Alpha we also looked for players in Chaos and recruited people like Infectious Agent, Vittorio and ChoppinBroccoli to the squad.

With this we were ready to go. Our first game was against fellow Alpha squad GoodFruit. We lost 12-7, but showed some promise. That was Vic's only Spring League match as we got a spot in AML Season 6 soon after.

Vic had gotten two breaks in our early recruiting. As well as playing Alpha I had tried out Death Star Battle. Although it wasn't an SVS zone it was a turf zone, something SVS didn't have at the time (and despite a couple attempts to get Turf Arizona back up, it doesn't have now). I was in a DSB League squad for a short time and while I was in it I met Shadowseeker. I asked him to join Vic and it turned out he was an excellent SVS player. The second break came when Alpha smod ManDude asked to join. MD's squad BlackNike wasn't comepting that season and a few of the players wanted a quiet season playing AML aliased. So suddenly I had a large and experieced roster to choose from. We'd gone from a squad of Alpha newbies expecting to get our asses kicked to title contenders.

We started AML Season 6 with an iffy pre-season, winning one and losing two. But it was a different story in the regular season. We won all our games, and won them big. Only one match, against Oracle X, was close. We went into the playoffs with real hopes of winning it all. Unfortantly we were knocked out at the semi final stage by eventual winners Unforseen, but it was a tremendous first season.

Season 7 was going to be a different story. First of all BlackNike was back in league which meant we lost a lot of our Season 6 roster including our starting line. We still had our alpha core and I recruited some new guys including Drug Against War, aPathy*, dry and George. Our sights were set a lot lower than the previous season but I expected us to at least get a playoff spot. But the season turned into a disaster.

We managed to win one game all season. We never managed to get our best four into a game at the same time in any match and it showed. Along the way we lost 12-0 twice. After the season was over I decided to pull Vic out of season 8. I was preparing to move home and after the mess season 7 turned into I thought a season out would do us good. But again my plans were changed by surprise influx of players

Unravel were a new squad made mostly of ex-Oracle X players and a couple of ex-Vic guys (Parabola and valence). Valence approached me asked if Unravel could all join Vic. That would give them a spot in League and it would also give us a big roster plus when I moved and was offline valence could run the squad for me. It started well. We went though the pre-season undfeated and won our first reg-season games easily.

Coming soon, how I decided that Subspace wasn't enough and I wanted to rule the universe.
